Franken Fran is one of my favourite manga. This manga is under the categories of horror, psychological, science-fiction, supernatural, medical and mature. It’s been updated irregularly. Madaraki Fran is a girl created by Dr. Madaraki Naomitsu, a mad scientist. Dr Madaraki rose to be recognized as the world’s foremost biochemist during the First World War. He is currently travelled around the world for his research and leaves his mansion under Fran’s care. Fran took some medical jobs during the Dr’s absent. But I have to warn you first because this manga many extreme gore scenes which will make some of you feel uncomfortable. Fran’s surgical procedures are so bizarre and not like anything you see in natural life. When I read this manga for the first time, I was like “O.o” about the way Fran performs various unimaginable surgeries which is impossible in today’s medical technologies. *Well, not yet anyway.* She is the mad scientist herself. Fran can raise the dead. The plot of the manga is separated into different stories and each story ends up with Fran fulfils her patients’ request by creating some sort of gruesome monstrosity.
Fran connected a son’s brain with his father. It means one body with two brains. The son is being murdered by the father. The father actually just wants a live puppet serve as his son. As a result, the son who is alive now knows that his father killed him. You can imagine how horrified the father is because this is not what he asks for.
Haruhime: I really don’t like the idea of there’s a face behind you head. This scene reminds me of Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone.
A girl is annoyed by the fact that the guy confessed to her is not one of the hot guys from the school. She walks away in frustration and got hit by a car. The boy desperately asks help from Fran. Fran revived the girl by giving her a caterpillar body. The girl is in hysterical when she wakes up and found about her body. The boy came every day and took care of the girl. Slowly the girl starts to develop feeling for the boy. Then she enters cocoon state and gets back her own body. Later the girl eats up the boy while they are making love like a female insect. *Do you know that praying mantis females sometimes eat their mates by starting with the head? The male mantis continues mating even though his head is gone! *
Haruhime: It’s horrible. I think the girl didn’t know about the fact she become an insect.
Chapter 3 – Take to Pieces
As some body part appears in town areas, the police start an investigation and found out that all of the body parts are from one person. The police questioned Fran. Fran took all the body parts and found it to be a blob. Later she tracks down source of the body parts and found out a girl with rare type of tumour. The tumour causes her body to grow excessive body parts. Fran helps the girl to get back her original body.
Fran went back to school and tried to taking a break. But she found out she is more busy than usual. Many students asked her to perform cosmetic surgery and change their appearances from beauty to all sort of weird creatures. A male student wants a female body for the sake of a girl who is afraid of men. They are together in the end with the girl change her body to a male’s body.
Haruhime: Fran’s surgery skills sure are amazing. She can cut your eyes to make it bigger and you don’t even have to suffer the pain and wait for weeks before you can see the result. But I really don’t understand those students, why want to do all those bizarre things on their bodies?
Fran discovered about some people from foreign government spying on Dr. Amatsuka and her creator’s researches. Dr Amatsuka is an old friend of Dr. Madaraki since the the day of old Japanese Empire. Dr. Amatsuka came to Dr. Madaraki’s mansion because of their bet on the existence of God. Then, Fran found out the Dr.’s secretary is actually a spy. Fran punished those spies by changing them into dog-human hybrids. Fran looks scary in this chapter. She seems very angry when people who attempt to get rich by using her creator’s researches.
Haruhime: I was kind of pity those people when I saw their horrible state. Remember, don't mess with Madaraki Fran-san...
Fran was invited to a young girl’s birthday party on a cruise in her creator’s place. However Fran discovered that the meat served to the guests are actually the fresh of the young girl. All the guests vomit upon hearing Fran’s shocking announcement. Then Fran shows people that the girl is actually suicide and found her head on a birthday cake.
Haruhime: OMG, who would think of such horrible suicide? It’s crazy.
Chapter 7 – Hold Me Tight
A boy killed his lover and attempt to suicide later. Fran stumbles upon this and decided to help them. Fran fixed the girl so that she can survive with only her head. When the girl gets back her body, she killed the boy out of grudge.
Haruhime: Think before you do anything stupid, especially to your lover. They can be vengeance, you know.
Fran was asked so that they can use her ability to remove her body part in a film. It turned out to be an adult-horror film in which her ability is being used as sexual idea and that angered Fran very much. So she decided to help a girl who is been tricked into participating in the film. The girl seeking vengeance and killed all of the production staffs.
Haruhime: Hmm, I really don’t understand about this one. I read it twice but still don’t get it…
An artist is on the verge of becoming blind. Fran gives him a pair of superhuman eyes which can see 12 different kinds of light reception. He is shocked and flees into the forest. He meets with a mysterious creature, seeing her as a beautiful girl, and chooses to live with her as he slowly regains his talent. The girl is most likely a version of a Yuki-onna (Snow Woman).
Chapter 9 – Fake
Two mafia lords fights to inherit the wealth from their late grandfather by asking help from Fran to make duplicate for them. A war started after things go wrong.
Haruhime: Just some crazy mafia world who kills each other off using Madaraki Fran-san’s amazing medical skills…
A client asked Fran to invent some product that can kill cockroaches on the genetics level. Then things went out of hands as the cockroaches break loose from the laboratory. The cockroaches were killed with strategically planted fire. But the client and two of her subordinates were burned too. Finally, Fran make their artificial skin by using the chitin from the cellulose of the cockroaches. The client and her subordinates couldn’t accept the fact that they went crazy. *I guess… I mean who wouldn’t?*
Haruhime: Originally, I was planned to write summary for each of the chapters as all of them are interesting. But finally I gave up on that idea as there are too many chapters. So I just write a few summaries and included some pictures. Enjoy^^.
